The TrueCoach alternative with the community, courses, and membership tiers built in
TrueCoach is built to send workouts to one client at a time, and it has group messaging when you need it. What it doesn't have is a place for your clients to meet, learn, or be sorted into membership levels. Perform gives you the same training essentials plus the feed, the classroom, and tier-gated access, on one flat plan.
$99/mo, flat. 30-day free trial, card required; cancel before it ends and you pay nothing.
TrueCoach vs Perform, in one paragraph
TrueCoach (now part of Xplor Technologies) is a one-to-one coaching platform: a workout and program builder, a video exercise library, in-app messaging, habits and nutrition logging, wearable sync, in-app Stripe payments, and group messaging for up to 20 people. What it doesn't include is a community feed, courses or a classroom for clients, or membership tiers that decide who sees what. Its pricing also moves in whole steps: three plans capped by active clients, and the entry plan leaves out the theming, wearable sync, and advanced nutrition tracking that start one plan up. Perform covers the training essentials, adds the feed, the courses and the tiers, and charges one flat price.
A message thread isn't a community
TrueCoach does have group features, so let's be exact. It has group messaging (up to 20 people per thread, with polls) and lets you assign one program to a group. What we couldn't find, in its features, pricing, help centre or app listing, is a feed where members post, react and reply to each other, a classroom, or tiers.
A thread has a ceiling
One group message holds up to 20 people. A feed holds your whole roster, and new members can scroll back to the posts that made the others stay.
Nowhere to teach
Onboarding, technique, mindset, and "how to read your check-in" end up as PDFs in a message. Perform has courses with modules, lessons, native video, progress tracking and lesson comments. TrueCoach's NASM library is continuing education for you, not a classroom for your clients.
No membership levels
One roster, one experience. In Perform, one membership tier gates courses (and the programs attached to them), feed categories, group chats, and live calls together, so you can run a lower-priced group and a 1:1 offer from the same place.
The bill steps up in blocks
Caps of 5, then 20, then 50 active clients. Cross a cap and you move to the next whole plan, and some features (theming, wearables, advanced nutrition) arrive only a plan up.
What a feed and a classroom add to 1:1 coaching
If your whole business is one-to-one, you may not need any of this. If you're thinking about a group offer, here's what changes:
Clients see each other train
A win posted in the feed gets reactions and replies from people on the same path. Categories keep it organised, including tier-only and coaches-only categories, and pinned posts keep the important things on top.
Onboarding runs itself
A "start here" course takes new clients through lesson one, lesson two, and the program attached to it, with progress tracked. You see who is stuck instead of re-sending the same welcome message.
A ladder, not a single offer
With tiers, a free or lower-priced member sees the community, hits a locked course, and has a reason to upgrade. Without tiers, everyone gets the same thing, so the app can't help sell your coaching.
The bill moves in steps
TrueCoach prices by active-client cap: three plans, with the entry plan taking a very small roster and the others stepping to 20 and 50. Past 50 you ask for special pricing. Nothing dishonest in that, and the month-to-month default and 14-day trial are fair. But it means your software bill depends on how many clients you have this month, and some features sit behind the plan you land on. Perform is one flat plan: unlimited members, unlimited coaches, everything on. Clients pay nothing on either.
What Perform is: the training essentials, plus the structure that retains
Perform isn't a community platform hoping you won't ask about workouts, and it isn't a training app with a chat tab bolted on. It's both halves of a coaching business in one place, on web and a native mobile app.
The training half, at parity
- Drag-and-drop program builder with an exercise library and demo videos
- Client-side logging of sets, reps, and load, with video on any set for your review
- Nutrition: barcode scanning across 1M+ foods, recipes, food diary
- Custom check-ins with progress photos, recurring or one-off
- Health metrics and habits (tick, reach an amount, or stay under)
- Strava, Apple Health and Health Connect (so Garmin, Oura, Whoop and most watches sync through them)
The half TrueCoach doesn't cover
- Community feed with categories, @mentions, and threaded replies
- Classroom with courses, modules, lessons, and native video
- Calendar with sessions and live calls (Zoom / Meet auto-links)
- Group chat and direct messages
- Broadcasts and drip sequences
- Membership tiers that gate courses, feed categories, chats, and calls
Bridge #1: courses that carry programs
Attach a training program to a course, and clients start the program attached to a course as they work through the lessons. Your education and your programming stop being two products in two places.
Bridge #2: one tier, every surface
One membership tier gates courses (and the programs attached to them), feed categories, group chats, and live calls together, so "free member" vs "paying client" is a single switch, not a rule you rebuild in each place.

Where TrueCoach still wins
No tool wins everything, and pretending otherwise would make the rest of this page worthless. If these are what matter most to you, pick TrueCoach:
In-app client payments
Recurring and one-off charges through Stripe, for coaches in the US, UK, Canada or Australia. Perform doesn't process client payments; you keep charging clients how you already do.
Integrations
A MyFitnessPal link and Zapier on the higher plans. Perform has no Zapier; it connects Strava, Apple Health and Health Connect, and lets your own AI assistant (Claude, ChatGPT) draft programs from your coaching data.
Lead pages and track record
A public coach profile that brings in leads, years in market, thousands of coaches and a 4.9 App Store rating. Perform is early-stage by comparison: fewer miles on it, and in exchange you get direct input on where it goes and a founder who answers your messages.
Pricing, plainly
TrueCoach has three plans by active-client cap (5, 20, 50), month-to-month by default with an annual discount, a 14-day trial, and a 90-day guarantee on first annual plans; check its pricing page for current figures. Perform is $99/month, flat: unlimited members, unlimited coaches, custom URL, everything on this page included, with a 30-day trial (card required). Clients pay nothing on either.
A note from the founder
I build Perform, and I answer the messages myself. When a coach asks for something, the reply comes from the person who writes the code.
This page tries to be fair to TrueCoach. Thousands of coaches use it for one-to-one delivery, and if you want in-app payments or Zapier, pick it. But if you've started to think about a group offer, a course, or a free-to-paid membership, and TrueCoach has nowhere to put any of it, that's the gap Perform exists for. Message me and I'll give you a straight answer either way.
— Tom, founder of Perform
Switching from TrueCoach, honestly
Migration pages usually promise everything comes across in one click. Here's what actually happens:
No one-click importer
Programs, exercises and content are re-created in Perform, and we do that with you personally. Early-stage means founder attention, not a ticket queue.
What can't move
Workouts your clients logged in TrueCoach stay in TrueCoach; logging in Perform starts fresh, so export what you want to keep first. Anything you build in Perform stays yours, and if you ever leave, we'll help you take your data with you.
What your clients experience
They tap an invite link, create a free account, and download the Perform app. Their program, the feed and your courses are waiting. No payment details.
Comparing TrueCoach and Trainerize? Read this first.
A lot of coaches land here mid-way through TrueCoach vs Trainerize, so here's the fair version of that too. Both are mature, training-first platforms with programming, messaging, habits and nutrition. TrueCoach leans into simplicity: a focused builder for 1:1 delivery, with Stripe payments and group messaging, and three plans stepped by client cap. Trainerize leans into breadth: community-style Groups, challenges and leaderboards, an AI workout builder, fuller nutrition coaching, white-label app options on higher plans, and a bigger ecosystem, with pricing that steps by client count and several paid add-ons (more in our Trainerize comparison).
Here's what neither has: a client-facing classroom with courses and lessons, or membership tiers that gate content. So structured education and a free-to-paid funnel live outside the app on both. If that's what brought you to a comparison page, the answer may not be either of them. That's the slot Perform is built for: the training essentials at parity, a community feed, and the courses and tier-gated memberships in the same product.
